Although the term hair slide is often used as a generic term here in the UK to describe all manner of hair clips and hair accessories, it is a very specific type of hair accessory. Evolved from the u-shaped double-pronged hair pin that has been in use for centuries, hair slides have distinctive close-together sides that, as their name suggests, slide into the hair to keep it in place. Hair slides, unlike hair clips, have no fastener or closing mechanism. Unlike their close relative the hair grip, hair slides are decorative in nature usually having a piece of hair jewellery such as crystals, butterflies, dragonflies or flowers attached.
